SSE Energy Solutions has been appointed as Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s exclusive strategic energy partner for heat networks, marking a significant step towards the city’s net-zero ambitions.
The collaboration aims to deliver sustainable heating solutions and foster economic growth, job creation and skills development in the green energy sector.
Heat accounts for 37% of the nation’s CO2 emissions and networks are projected to meet 20% of the country’s heat demand by 2050.
Beyond this, the agreement explores renewable energy projects, electric vehicle charging hubs and innovative heat solutions to bolster clean energy production.
Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker said: “SSE will also commit to helping develop local skills to support the delivery of milestone projects and using local suppliers and workforce. This agreement will cement our commitment within the green energy sector.”
Nathan Sanders, Managing Director of SSE Energy Solutions, added: “Combining SSE’s expertise in sustainable energy solutions with the Council’s deep understanding of local needs, we’re creating a strong foundation for the city’s energy transition.”
The five-year collaboration aligns with SSE’s £20.5 billion investment in clean energy infrastructure by 2027.
