SSE Energy Solutions has partnered with Berkeley Homes to decarbonise the heat network for 5,000 London homes through a large scale retrofit project.
The project will use an air source heat pump system, which will be installed in Wellington Park and connected to the existing district heating network pipes.
The work is set to commence in 2025 and will pave the way for decarbonisation work across SSE’s expanding UK heat networks.
Jody Pittaway, the Sector Director for Heat Networks at SSE Energy Solutions, believes that the Woolwich Arsenal project is a model for decarbonising existing campus heat networks across the UK and that by designing integrated systems with long term efficiency and performance in mind, low carbon heat can be delivered at affordable prices through the use of new heat sources, smart energy storage, and electricity network solutions.
